- Directed Ohio State to title game (runner-up to Oregon) in the inaugural NCAA Tournament in 1939
- Finished in third place in 1946 NCAA Tournament
- Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959
- Compiled a 95-63 record (.601) as coach of the NBA's Chicago Stags for three seasons from 1946-47 through 1948-49
- All-Americans (five): Wes Fesler (1931), Don Grate (1944 and 1945), Jimmy Hull (1939), Paul Huston (1946) and Arnie Risen (1945).
