Preseason Treason: Michigan State Runs Risk of Worst Mark for Preseason #1

Who among the mentally-challenged media thought North Carolina and Florida were Top 10 teams? The same question might apply for Michigan State, which became the fourth straight and 14th Associated Press preseason No. 1 selection overall to suffer at least eight defeats. The Spartans, after losing four of their first five Big Ten Conference contests in February, are on a pace to post the lowest winning percentage in history for a preseason #1 choice.

The previous lowest winning percentage for a preseason top-ranked squad was registered by John Wooden-coached UCLA, which was 18-8 (.692) in 1965-66 when the Bruins finished second in the AAWU behind Oregon State.
