- World War II transport pilot was also called to active duty during the Korean War. He coached an Air Force team in Memphis while in the service
- Coached four ABA teams--New Orleans (1967-68 through 1969-70), Memphis (1970-71 and 1971-72), Dallas (1972-73) and Kentucky (1973-74)
- Final Top 20 Rankings (five: AP/UPI)--1957 (15/NR), 1958 (15/NR), 1959 (3/6), 1962 (4/4) and 1963 (6/7)
- All-Americans (three): Mississippi State's Jim Ashmore (1957), Bailey Howell (1958 and 1959) and Red Stroud (1962 and 1963).
