Zags Fall Short of Tying NC A&T and UK for Most League Tourney Titles in Row

The Southern Conference had a couple of the most successful young coaches in history. Everett Case won Southern Conference Tournament titles each of his first six seasons as North Carolina State's head coach from 1947 through 1952 before Fred Schaus won all six of his years at West Virginia's helm from 1955 through 1960.

Case also won the first three ACC Tournament titles from 1954 through 1956. Following is a summary of the six schools capturing at least six consecutive conference tournament championships in the same league:

Conference Tourney Titlist Consecutive Years Coach
Mid-Eastern Athletic North Carolina A&T seven from 1982 through 1988 Don Corbett
Southeastern Kentucky seven from 1944 through 1950 Adolph Rupp
Mid-Continent Valparaiso six from 1995 through 2000 Homer Drew
Southern North Carolina State six from 1947 through 1952 Everett Case
Southern West Virginia six from 1955 through 1960 Fred Schaus
