Success At Every Single Turn: Will Barnes and/or Davis Join Ellis and Kruger?
ESPN energizer bunny Dick Vitale is among five different Detroit Mercy coaches who directed the Titans to the NCAA playoffs and/or NIT. If new UD coach Mike Davis becomes the sixth such mentor and hangs around long enough to achieves the feat four times, he will join exclusive company in the coaching community. Davis has guided more teams to national postseason competition (14; Indiana 5 times/UAB 4/Texas Southern 5) than Detroit has participated in during its entire school history (13).
The two success-ridden pilots already in this celebrated category are Cliff Ellis (South Alabama 4/Clemson 8/Auburn 7/Coastal Carolina 4) and Lon Kruger (Kansas State 4/Florida 4/UNLV 6/Oklahoma 5). Davis will need to see immediate postseason results to try to keep pace with principal competitor Rick Barnes (Providence 5/Clemson 4/Texas 16/Tennessee 1) en route to joining well-traveled Ellis and Kruger.
